Week #46

 Hello Hello Hello. Another great week here in Qingshui!

Happy Birthday to Wesley and to my Grandma Holt! Love you! Also the pictures from this week are from a science museum that we went to on Pday, and also from the Birthday Party of my favorite person in our ward 小廣. He is my favorite because he will only give us Elders high fives, and nobody else. Also this week I had to say goodbye to one of my shirts, and garment tops, because I forgot to cap my pen and the ink got everywhere.

   

This week we had the coolest thing happen. So we went up to the college in our area to contact people. And there was this one place by the bathrooms that we usually don't go to, but I had to go to the bathroom, and when I got out there was a lady sitting on a bench over by the bathrooms. So we went up to go talk to her. She was pretty cool, but it didn't seem like she had a ton of interest. Also she told us she was waiting for her English teacher. Then this white guy comes up and starts talking to us so we just assume that it is her English teacher, but it was not. But anyways, we he just starts like talking to us, and at first we are just talking about where we are from and stuff, but then he said he wanted to talk about what we were sharing. He said he was Catholic but that he really liked to learn about other religions. So we went to lunch with him and we were able to share about the Restoration and the Plan of Salvation. His name is Tom and he is from Michigan, and he is super cool and we are meeting with him again tomorrow!

  

 Also we had some pretty cool tracting miracles this week. We tracted into this super nice 90 year old Christian lady who let us share with her. Then we were tracting one night and this girl answered the door and her sister didn't really want to let us in, so the one that answered just came out and talked to us. Then she finally let us in, and we were able to share with her, her younger brother, and her sister's boyfriend. Also we had a member there that was tracting with us so he was able to bear his testimony to them. It seemed like they had interest but then they didn't really want to set up with us again, but it was still an awesome experience. Also right as we were about to leave, their parents came back home, and you could tell that they did not really want us to be in there house, so it was a huge miracle that they got home when they did. 

  

Well today we are going to an amusement park for Pday so that should be fun. Love you all! Read the Book of Mormon daily. It's true!

Week #45

   Well the first good news is that I am staying in QingShui with Elder Huang. I love the Branch here and I have loved being companions with Elder Huang so this next transfer should be really fun.

   

Second good news is that Rose-fel and Aldrine were baptized on Sunday. It was a really great service, and after we asked Rose-fel how she felt, and she was at a loss for words. But you could tell that they were both super happy!

   

We were also able to meet with our investigator Huang this week! She has just been super busy with work. We were able to find out that she has a very strong desire to be baptized. And she said that she has complete faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. She is just lacking faith in herself. Also she wants her husband to support her decision to be baptized. But we know how to help her a lot more now so it should be good. 

   

We didn't find any new investigators this week, so I don't have anyone else to write about. We did find two really cool people this week that set up with us, but then neither of them came and they won't answer the phone... so yeah. 

 Also in a companionship study this week, Elder Huang and I were talking about the importance of having an eternal perspective. An eternal perspective is what will allow us to always have peace and happiness. It is also what will allow us to rely on our Savior daily. It is also very important because it helps us understand that there will never be a job more important than going to church, there will never be any amount of sleep more important than reading your scriptures and praying everyday. Eternal perspective is what keeps our eye single to the Glory of God, and gives us a desire to do whatever it takes to one day return and live with him.

​Also this picture is funny because 因為全聯 is saying "Because of PX Mart" which is the name of a grocery store. And 因為他 is "Because of Him" which is the name of the church video. So I just thought that was funny.

Week #44

Happy Mothers Day!

 It was great to skype my family! 

Also this week I had stinky tofu for the first time and it is very disgusting. 

Sorry this letter is going to be a little short.

  

Well on Friday, our investigator Huang set up for the next day, then an hour before we were going to meet with her she cancelled again. So hopefully we can actually meet this week. 

   

Rose-fel and Aldrine are going to be baptized this Sunday! They are still doing super good, and although they will be baptized in the English branch, we got permission to go so that should be really good. 

   

Well yeah sorry this is a really short letter, but I love you all and hope that I have more for you next week.

[He says it's very hot and sometimes when they get done teaching people or studying at the 7's (7-11 stores) they just go stand by the freezer before they have to go outside again and he's picked up a little bit of Taiwanese to go with his Mandarin.]

Week #43

   First I want to start my email by giving a shout out to the awesome members of our branch. Because first of all on Pday we went to 高美濕地 (tall beautiful wetlands). On our way there Elder Chen ran over a nail and his tire went completely flat. But us being the very resourceful missionaries that we are thought we could use a 任何成功都不能彌補家庭的失敗 (No success can compensate for failure in the home) sticker. Well that did not actually work, so we called our branch president. But most of the members were at some biking activity, but he called our Elders Quorum president who just immediately came and brought us a new bike and went and took Elder Chen's to go get fixed... so awesome. Then we ate dinner at a members house on Cinco de Mayo and she made us Mexican food... in Taiwan. And she didn't have time to go to Costco to but tortillas so she just handmade them. Then on Sunday we had an activity and she made orange chicken... like Panda Express orange chicken. So clutch.

   Now I have a story to tell which will explain our finding efforts this week. So we had just finished our studies and we had about 10 minutes to contact before dinner. So we made a goal to get one add (someone to set up with us). So we walked around and talked to people, but after the 10 minutes we didn't find anybody, so we walked back to our bikes. When we got back to our bikes, somebody had left and advertisement in Elder Huang's bike basket (which happened to be of golden color). Then Elder Huang turns to me and says "We got our golden AD". haha yeah but it has been pretty hard to find people lately. We did meet this one lady and we had an awesome lesson with her, but she does not live in our area. 

   Rose-fel and Aldrine are still doing great and are preparing to be baptized in a couple of weeks. Mrs. Huang has had to cancel two weeks in a row and she couldn't come to church yesterday because her family had planned a mothers day activity, but she is still reading the Book of Mormon and praying everyday so we are praying that she can meet with us this week. 

   I read these 2 scriptures in Hebrews 12:6,11 and they really stuck out to me. For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth   

Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. 

 I don't think there is one person that ever thinks trials are fun. But the Lord gives us these trials because he loves us and he wants us to grow. And if we endure these trials faithfully, then the blessings will far outweigh the trial itself. I especially like this because this week we talked to somebody who just could not except our message because he knew of a lot of bad people that he felt needed to receive punishment of some sort. So he would only accept our message if they received punishment. And that got me thinking about life and how sometimes things aren't fair. Then I thought about how life isn't supposed to be fair, and it will never be fair. But because of the knowledge that we have of the Plan of Salvation, we can have joy through trials, and one day we can rest from all of our trials and everything will be made fair. 

  Well I love you all and I am happy to see my family next week!
