Week #72

Here is a little run down of what happened this week. WARNING: We didn't really find anyone new and some of our investigators dropped off so not a super good week.

On Tuesday we went to go visit this LA that we call 十一奉獻 (tithing), because no matter what you want to talk about, he always ends up talking about tithing. He even mentioned how great Bill Gates' and Warren Buffets tithing must be for the church (haha I don't know). But anyways he was scrambling around his house looking for something to feed us, and even though we kept saying we didn't need anything, he proceeded to get some bowls, pour some milk in them, and then pour cheddar popcorn into the same bowls. It was not as bad as stinky tofu... but it was definitely not good. But I know that they have all of those ingredients in America so go ahead and try it.

On Wednesday we met with a different Brother Wang. This Brother Wang and his family were tracted into by Elder Brenchley and his last companion, but the second meeting with them (due to a random member walking in and kind of ruining the lesson) didn't go to well. So for a while they wouldn't answer, but we went and visited there house and met with them, but his wife wasn't there. We reviewed the Plan of Salvation and he said that eternal families are something that would be important right now. But he feels like because he believes more in science, and he can't see the end result, that he does not have any motivation to work towards it. But we taught about prayer and invited him to pray to know if it was true.

On Thursday for Thanksgiving the bishop in the other ward took us to a steak place that had a bunch of all you can eat other stuff. Super good. Then I went on exchanges with Elder Sano.

Friday was my 500th day on the mission! pretty crazy stuff. Also Nick was supposed to have his baptismal interview, but his mom (who is very less active and was not aware that he was having this interview) started freaking out because she didn't think that he was prepared. Then her and her husband had a pretty big argument and then the left. So we will just keep meeting with him and review everything.

Well I am very grateful to be out here serving the Lord. I am so grateful for this gospel and how much it has blessed me and my family. I am grateful for the Book of Mormon and the knowledge and power that it brings into my life. I am so grateful for all of the good things the Lord has given me and all of the great things he has in store for me. Love you!

Week #71

Sorry that this email is a little late, [we received it at 1:15 am instead of the usual 6:00 pmwe went to an amusement park this morning! But this week was super good.

President Teh is really stressing finding new ways to find people to teach, but we are struggling thinking of new ways. So if anyone has any ideas that they want to throw out there I would love to hear them.

We had a really good Zone Conference this week. Most of it was talking about the Safeguards for using Technology. I am super excited to get phones! They are going to be such a great tool for missionary work. I know that this is the Lord's work, and that this is just another way that he is hastening it in this time.

Nick is still doing good. But the problem is that sometimes his family does not come to church, so he does not either. So we are working on trying to get there whole family to church all of the time. Brother Liu has not really been answering our calls lately. Brother Wang is so awesome! We were able to meet with him and teach him about the first half of the Plan of Salvation. He really understood repentance, and in his prayer in the end he said that he really wanted the Holy Ghost in his life.

Sorry not a lot of time because of the amusement park. Love you all!

Week #70

Elders Brenchley, Bosco, Sano, Chang

Some Pictures from last week (before the transfer)

each chair equals one transfer

This week was so fun! Elder Brenchley is just such a hard worker. Usually when you get a new companion the first little bit is weird cause you are trying to get used to things, but with Elder Brenchey we just got right into things and went to work! And we literally can just talk about basketball all of the time... I am super excited for the rest of this transfer. Also the ward here is so so cool. We get fed sooooooooooo much. And rumor is they are one of the best at missionary work in the whole mission!

I will update you on some investigators. First Brother Liu. He had a baptismal goal for the 18th but we had to change it to 12/2 becuase he can't come to church. He can't come to church because he owns a breakfast shop which opens on Sunday, but he said he could get it changed so they don't open on Sunday. But then we went to their breakfast shop the next day he hadn't told his wife, and every time we bring it up he gets really awkward and will just not tell his wife. But he loves prayer and the Book of Mormon, so hopefully we can get everything else figured out.

Next, Nick. He is the 9 year old kid of a less active member. He recently just started saying his personal prayers. He also has a date for the 2nd of December. It is hard for him to focus in lessons, but he is 9 so everything is going ok.

This week we met with a new guy, Brother Wang. He really just wants to know how he can raise his kids well. He loved the comparison of how God with him is just like him and his kids. Also on Sunday he came at the very end of church and toured the chapel with his two kids, and he talked about wanting to bring his wife next week. He lives in another area from Monday-Friday, and then here Saturday-Sunday. So we will see what happens when we get it all figured out.

I felt a 4.2 earthquake this week... all good. Also My friends from QinqShui came down and visited this week to drop something off and we had dinner with them. It was so good to see them. And they gave me some good news. So when I was in QinqShui Elder Huang and I would eat lunch with a member and some of her friends, but the friends never really had interest. But now one of them has a baptismal goal for December... so cool!

Well I am just loving life right now! Love you all!

Week #69

Well training is over! These past two transfers have gone by so
fast. I had so much fun training Elder Durrant. I learned and grew so
much over these past 12 weeks.

My new area is called Yuan Lin. It is right below Taichung.

And my new companion is Elder Brenchley. He is from Logan, Utah.
He is playing basketball at the UofU after the mission.
If you want to know more about him you can just google him,
he's pretty famous.
And the best part is that he likes LeBron... so that's all I need to get along with somebody.

Brother Zheng is doing super good. He had to move his baptism back
one week because of work, but he is still going strong. He showed up
to our lessons this week one hour early so that he could read the Book
of Mormon.

Sorry not a lot of time today, but I hope everyone has a good week. Love you!

We just got this picture this morning from Scott Ji (front). He is the young man that visited us a few months ago from Taiwan. He had befriended Collin when he was in his ward before and now he is close to the same area so they were able to have dinner together again. Scott told us how great it was to see Elder Bosco again and that Elder Brenchley is very nice.
